UK Student Accommodation Market
The UK university market is very popular with Asian, Middle East and European students who enhance domestic demand for university places. Currently there are only 500,000 rooms in student halls to meet the needs of 1,500,000 students who live away from home. Demand for Higher Education in the UK has never been stronger as students have rushed to apply to universities for the 2011/2012 academic year. According to the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS ), applications for 2010/11 were 700,000 an increase of 1.2% compared with the same period last year. Applications exceeded available places by approximately 200,000 which continue to bode well for future university demand. The student accommodation providers believe that demand for their specialist products will continue to exceed availability, underpinning rents and asset values.
