In recent years, UK student accommodation has become recognised as an almost bullet-proof sub-sector of the property asset class. Demand for higher education in the UK has never been stronger. According to the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, applications for 2011-12 so far are up 2.5% compared with the same period last year. If this trend continues, it would result in over-subscription rate of nearly 150% for the places available. As a result, UK student accommodation providers are anticipating a bumper year and expect waiting lists by early summer.
